Durham is celebrating it’s 150th birthday and we feel there is no better way to celebrate than by Amplify the voice of its young people, who are not only our future, but our now.
The Durham Youth Commission in Partnership with Durham Housing Authority and Kids Voting Durham is hosting a youth Voice Festival. This Festival is celebrating Durham’s 150 years by responding to the lack of platforms and space for youth in Durham to voice their opinions, needs and lived experiences as it relates to growing up in DURHAM.
youth Participants will have an opportunity to have small group conversations with elected officials around a host of issues that concern them and an opportunity to share their lived experience with these topics through performance art including, music, spoken word and dance.
This festival will bring together youth advocacy organizations and programs and the young people of Durham. Youth may not be aware of all the opportunities and efforts in Durham, but those who attend will have an opportunity to speak with a range of organizations with a youth focus to connect to resources that match their interest. The festival will also prioritize young entrepreneurs and vendor to promote and sell their art, crafts and services. Food trucks will be available and we will be handing out food vouchers to the youth who attend.
