West End/Lyon Park Legacy- “CARROLL STREET BLOCK FESTIVAL”

Durham 150 Grantee

A day of fun and learning of the history & legacy of the West End/Lyon park community and the impact left on the city of Durham by its residents.

This event is a community festival, held on Carroll street, celebrating seven of The 150 names of trailblazers/heros and change makers named by the Honors Commission for Durham’s Sesquicentennial Celebration were members of the West End/Lyon Park community.

They are Ernie Barnes, William Marsh, Jr., Pauli Murray, Benjamin Ruffin, Yusuf Salim, Peggy Tapp, and Daisy Gunn.

History lessons, a street tour, city/local vendors, kids fun & play, meet honorees family, games, music and food are some of the festival’s activities for the public to enjoy.
