Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall
The Common Woman Chorus (CWC) of Durham and the Triangle Gay Men’s Chorus (TGMC) of Raleigh will present a monumental concert on June 22, 2019 entitled Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall. This event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising, the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ movement for civil rights and the inspiration for the annual celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride.
CWC, TGMC, and their special guests, the Triad Pride Men’s and Women’s Choruses, will perform the title music suites’ brand new, 8-movement work co-commissioned by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. In doing so, the four choruses will represent North Carolina as part of the largest collaboration of LGBTQ+ choruses in history. This work will be performed by over 25 choruses nationwide this spring. The program will feature additional songs of protest, liberation and inspiration presented by both CWC and TGMC.
Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall not only commemorates the events that took place in New York City on June 28, 1969, but also honors the courage of early social justice pioneers. The work encourages everyone to join in the renewed spirit of resistance for the future, not just for LGBTQ+ individuals, but for all victims of bullying, hate, intolerance, and violence.
