Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts

“Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts” have been staples of North Carolina food culture for generations. At this event we explore these foods that have long been a part of daily life through demonstrations and tastings. We invite local community members to be a part of our judging panel for BBQ and pie tasting.

Duke Homestead celebrates North Carolina’s food history and culture at “Pork, Pickles and Peanuts: Tastes of North Carolina.” This free, fun family event focuses on everything that makes the state taste great with the highly competitive and extremely tasty annual Barbecue Cook-Off and Pie Competition.

Historical cooking demonstrations take center stage at the historic Duke house as we explore North Carolina’s delicious past. guests will learn about historical food ways from costumed interpreters as a dish is prepared in the wood stove of the Duke family home.
