Phoenix Fest
Durham 150 Grantee
The 18th annual Phoenix Fest will bring thousands to historic Fayetteville Street in Durham, NC again this year on Saturday, October 5, 2019 to celebrate the musical and cultural heritage of the Hayti community — one of our city’s and state’s oldest African American communities. This year Durham’s sesquicentennial will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of our city’s founding in 1869, making the celebration of the Hayti community all the more meaningful in the context of the city’s history.
The free one-day festival starts with a 9 am parade up Fayetteville Street followed by an Africana vendor market and all-day music on center stage from 11 am until 6 pm. With a rotating roster of jazz, blues, reggae, R&B, gospel, African percussion and hip hop performers, the festival provides family-friendly entertainment for all ages.
