National Pupusa Day Celebration

NATIONAL PUPUSA DAY IS CELEBRATED THE SECOND SUNDAY IN NOVEMBER. THIS DAY IS TYPICALLY  CELEBRATED IN EL SALVADOR AND IN CITIES WHERE THERE IS PROMINENT REPRESENTATION OF THE SALVADORAN DIASPORA. LOS ANGELES OR D.C. FOR EXAMPLE. THERE HAS NOT BEEN SUCH A CELEBRATION HERE IN DURHAM, AND NOT IN NORTH CAROLINA THAT WE ARE AWARE OF.

WE WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN THE 1ST NATIONAL PUPUSA DAY CELEBRATION ON THE 15OTH CELEBRATION OF DURHAM TO MARK PROGRESS WITH A BEGINNING.

OUR FOOD TRUCK, ALTHOUGH SMALL, HAS GAINED NATIONAL RECOGNITION, AND THIS CELEBRATION WOULD HIGHLIGHT THE IMMIGRANT SPIRIT OF SOCIAL INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP THAT EXISTS IN DURHAM.

FAMILIES CAN COME ENJOY THE ART OF SALVADORAN CUISINE, AND SPEND A DAY ENJOYING SALVADORAN CULTURE AS A PART OF THEIR COMMUNITY. MUSIC, FOOD VENDORS, PERFORMANCES, AND COMMUNITY SERVICES WOULD BRING TOGETHER FOLKS FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS, TO LEARN ABOUT AND CELEBRATE SALVADORAN CULTURE AND EAT OUR MOST TRADITIONAL FOOD: THE PUPUSA!

THROUGH COLLABORATIONS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, WE CAN CELEBRATE A YOUNG BUSINESS LIKE OUR FOOD TRUCK, AND ALSO VETERAN BUSINESSES LIKE EL CUSCATLECO ON GARRET RD, WHICH USED TO BE THE ONLY PLACE YOU COULD GET PUPUSAS. NOW THERE IS THE METAPANECA ON 98, AND OUR FOOD TRUCK ALL OVER THE TRIANGLE.

THIS EVENT HIGHLIGHTS THE DIVERSITY OF LATINIDAD- WE ARE NOT JUST MEXICANS WHO EAT TACOS, WE ARE ALSO SALVADORANS WHO EAT PUPUSAS. REPRESENTATION MATTERS!
