Juneteenth Time Capsule and Burial and Processional

THE JUNTEENTH TIME CAPSULE BURIAL AND  PROCESSIONAL IS A HALF-DAY EVENT IN CELEBRATION OF BLACK DURHAM’S ACHIEVEMENTS, POLITICAL STRUGGLE, AND RESILIENCE TO OPPRESSION. THE EVENT IS SET TO TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY JUNE 15TH, COINCIDES WITH THE NATIONAL JUNETEENTH HOLIDAY AND THE 400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST ENSLAVED AFRICANS BROUGHT TO THE AMERICAS.

THE EVENT WILL KICK-OFF WITH THE BLACK GENIUS TIME CAPSULE BURIAL, THE CULMINATION OF A YEAR-LONG OUTREACH EFFORT TO COLLECT ARTIFACTS OF BLACK GENIUS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO EXPLORE. THE TIME CAPSULE BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE HAYTI HERITAGE CENTER, AND WILL BE RE-OPENED IN 2050.

PROMPTLY FOLLOWING THE BURIAL, PARTICIPANTS WILL DEPART IN A LIVELY PROCESSIONAL FOR PARRISH ST. DOWNTOWN, AKA. BLACK WALL ST. WHILE ACTIVATING THE NAMESAKE OF THE HAYTI COMMUNITY, THE JUNETEENTH PROCESSIONAL WHICH WILL CROSS OVER HWY 147 LITERALLY AND SYMBOLICALLY RECONNECTING A COMMUNITY DIVIDED.
