True to form, in this difficult time, the Durham community has rallied to help those in need. Here are the local fundraiser efforts created to help those affected by the tragic event that took place this week.

Discover Durham, The City of Durham, and Durham 150 are not affiliated with and have not organized any of the following fundraisers. Please use your best judgment when donating to any online fundraising effort.

Bull City Rebuilds

The Bull City Rebuilds GoFundMe campaign was created by Durham local Rebekah Miel. You might recognize Rebekah for her efforts to pay down Durham school lunch debt.

Her campaign was created to help the families and businesses impacted by the explosion in downtown Durham.

This campaign is organized by a local fundraiser, and its contributions will be distributed to businesses and families, either directly or through a local nonprofit organization — not to the organizer of this campaign.

Email the organizer at rebekah@mieldesignstudio.com if you have any questions or comments.

Durham Restaurant Workers Fund

The Durham Restaurant Workers Fund was created by Bar Virgile co-owner Daniel Sartain.

"Many restaurant workers who depend on their shops being open are without income for the foreseeable future. With your help, we can lessen their burden just a bit, as many are just beginning what is sure to be an arduous journey."

Lee Family Support

Durham local Callie Brauel started Lee Family Support. In Callie's words:

"I personally know Diana Lee's beautiful heart and desire for building community from working alongside her for years to build a vocational school for homeless mothers and their children in Ghana.

Now, Diana and Raymond need the community to support them. Kong Lee was caring for and fully supporting his elderly mother who lived in his Raleigh residence. Diana and Raymond need support to take care of their grandmother and pay for the father's funeral.

Any amount you give means a ton to the Lee family and will be used to help them make it through the next few months.  This money will be used for living expenses like paying the mortgage of Kong's house, caring for Kong's mom, funeral expenses, and will give them time to figure out another source of income for their family until they can rebuild their coffee shop."

Fundraiser for Kaffeinate

Jethro Libutan, a student at Durham School of the Arts, created a Fundraiser for Kaffeinate.

"The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise funds to help Kaffeinate rebuild its store. All 100% of the proceeds go to helping the owner rebuild Kaffeinate. Any amount will help!"

If you have any questions please email Jethro at: jethrolibutan@gmail.com

It's a true testament to the spirit of Durham that our community has demonstrated such support. In the words of Durham Fire Department Chief Bobby Zoldos, "Today, we were strong when our city needed us to be strong." We are #BullCityStrong.
